Decide whether you want to be your own boss. Nobody will be there to look over your shoulder. You will make all the decisions. It is up to you how many hours you will work each day, what time you will get started and end your work day, and how much time to take for lunch. You will need to learn how to rid yourself of all distractions; the television, personal phone calls, loud children, etc. If you do not possess a certain level of self-discipline, you are doomed.
You need the ability to handle rejection. Some people in this business just come undone whenever a prospect says no. Be ready for people to reject your product or business method, because it will happen. The key is to remember that they are probably not rejecting you. Maybe they just do not want or need your product, or they may have no interest in joining ANY business opportunity.
If you are not a patient person, you must develop the ability to wait. MLM, like any other business, does not produce results overnight. You must learn to work every day, for AT LEAST one year, before you begin to see the fruits of your labor. It takes time to build any business, and this is no exception. Traditional businesses do not usually produce a profit for two to three years. It is possible to see results more quickly in network marketing, but do not expect anything to happen quickly. It probably will not.
Expect repetition. For example, say you purchase business leads. You may or may not be lucky enough to get a sign-up from your first round. You buy another round of leads the next month, and the next, etc. If you continue to do this regularly, you should eventually get a pretty good downline going. However, some who join your business will end up quitting, so the lead process continues. That is the nature of this business. Over a period of time, your business will grow, but only after a lot of repetition has taken place.
Are you able to afford ongoing expenses? When you join MLM, your company will require that you purchase their monthly auto-ship. This is a monthly shipment of products directly to your door. The amount can range from $100-$300 per month with some companies, but others are much less. You have to decide what you can afford, because in the beginning, you will probably not see a profit which will help offset this expense.
Other ongoing expenses could be monthly fees for a website and autoresponder if you plan to market online. You must also take advertising expenses into account. However, there are many free and low-cost methods.
So, are you cut out for MLM? Only you can answer that, but hopefully the tips I have mentioned in this article will assist you.
